Renting a boat in Rauma: out to the fortress and lighthouse islands
Rauma is a port town on the Bothnian Sea coast of Satakunta, 50 km south of Pori, and its wooden Old Rauma is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A small cabin boat with a plotter and echo sounder is kept in town on Tarvonsaari. Its owner can come along as skipper at weekends.
On the mainland, the guest harbours at Poroholma and Syväraumanlahti lie about 2.5 km from the centre, reached by marked routes of 2.4 m from the north and 1.2 m from the west. Syväraumanlahti has fuel, and berths there are on buoys, with anchoring prohibited. Offshore, Kuuskajaskari is a former coastal fortress about 4 km west of the harbour. Kylmäpihlaja, on the edge of the open sea, has a 36 m lighthouse tower and a sheltered guest harbour with about 20 berths. Our Pori and Rauma guide gives crossing times.
