Dalsbruk: an open boat at the old ironworks
Dalsbruk, Taalintehdas in Finnish, is a village of about 1,000 people on Kimitoön in south-west Finland. It grew around an ironworks founded in 1686 that ran until 2012, and many of its buildings are made of slag bricks from the works.
The boat listed here is an open boat with a new 50 hp engine, approved for six and most comfortable for four or five. Life jackets, anchor, lines, fenders and a chart of the area are included, and it goes out and comes back with a full tank.
Dalsbruk's guest harbour, in the middle of the village, has sauna and showers for visitors. Kasnäs, where fuel is sold around the clock, is about 9 nautical miles away, and beyond it lie the sandy bays of Högsåra and the former fortress island of Örö. Our Kimitoön guide plans six trips in the area.
