Rennesøy: island boating north of Stavanger

Rennesøy is a 40.7 km² island in the Boknafjord that has been part of Stavanger since 2020. A pilothouse boat for day trips and fishing is kept on the island; its owner rents it by the day only when it goes out and comes back on the same day. The other boats on this page are in Stavanger, in the city, on Hundvåg and on Vassøy, and range from small fishing boats and a landstedsbåt to cabin cruisers and a sailing yacht that is rented out with a skipper.

The old Rennesøy municipality also took in Mosterøy, Fjøløy, Sokn, Bru, Vestre Åmøy, Klosterøy and Brimse, all but Brimse linked by bridges or subsea tunnels. On Klosterøy stands Utstein Abbey, the only medieval monastery complex preserved in Norway. The main village, Vikevåg, lies on the Mastrafjord in the island's south-west, and the E39 has run under that fjord through the 4.4 km Mastrafjord tunnel since 1992. East of Rennesøy lie Finnøy and Talgje, part of the Ryfylke island route in our five Stavanger boat routes.

If you collect a boat in the city, keep to 8 knots in Stavanger's harbour basin and among the city islands, Vassøy included.
