What is Ship O’Hoi?

Eiksund, by the bridge to Eika

Eiksund is a small village in Ulstein on Sunnmøre, where the 405 m Eiksund bridge crosses to the island of Eika. From Eika the Eiksund tunnel runs almost 7.8 km under the sea towards Volda, down to 287 m below sea level. It opened in 2008 and gave Ulstein, Hareid, Herøy and Sande their first fixed link to the mainland.

A 14 ft open boat for up to four, with an 18 hp engine, lies in a harbour in Eiksund itself. A 21 ft diesel day cruiser with canopy, sun deck and echo sounder is collected in Volda at the far end of the tunnel, and its owner can deliver it by arrangement.

Ulsteinvik, the municipal centre, is a short way north, and its guest harbour is one of the southern stops in our guide to the coast around Ålesund, about 30 nautical miles from Ålesund.
