Fiskarstranda on the island of Sula
Fiskarstranda, also written Fiskarstrand, is a village on the north side of the island of Sula, about 5 km east of the municipal centre Langevåg and 2.5 km west of Mauseidvåg. People have farmed here since the 1630s. Fish processing is still a leading trade, and a shipyard has worked on the shore since 1909.
No boats are listed in the village. The ones shown are across the water in Ålesund: a sailing yacht that requires a boat licence and a renter aged at least 25, a small day cruiser whose owner also rents out fishing gear, and a fishing boat for renters used to boats.
Borgundfjorden separates Sula from Nørvøya, the island on which Ålesund is built. It is up to 128 m deep and gives its name to the Borgundfjord fishery, a rich cod fishery that usually takes place in late winter, in February and March.
