Ulsteinvik: a shipbuilding town among skerries
Ulsteinvik, the town and municipal centre of Ulstein, lies mainly on Hareidlandet, the largest island on Sunnmøre. It sits inside a scatter of islets, skerries and islands facing the Norwegian Sea, and beaches run from the town out towards Flø. The town has large shipyards and other maritime industry. Bridges link Hareidlandet to Dimna and to Eika.
The boats shown are not in the town itself. In the south of the municipality, a small open boat with room for four is moored in the harbour at Eiksund. Further away, in Ålesund, about 30 nautical miles north by sea, is a 26 ft cabin boat that sleeps four, with a toilet, a gas cooker and a fridge.
Ulsteinvik has its own guest harbour, one of the stops in our guide to Ålesund from the sea. With so many skerries off the town, use a chart when you come in.
