Dalarö, the old customs harbour of the southern archipelago
Dalarö grew up around a customs house from the 1630s, on the main approach to Stockholm from the south, and later became a seaside resort. A traditional snipa-type launch and a daycruiser are listed in Dalarö itself. Most of the other boats are closer to the city, a RIB and a bowrider in Saltsjöbaden and a small motor dinghy and a bowrider in Tyresö, and there is also a small family sailboat.
Leaving the harbour you pass Dalarö skans, the fort on Stockskärsholmen just south of the village. The present fort was begun in 1656 and has never seen battle. About 7 km east-south-east lies Kymmendö, which has belonged to the same family line for more than 200 years, with a pier served by the archipelago boats and natural harbours on two sides. Ornö and Utö are the classic longer runs, and passenger boats from Dalarö Brygga serve both. Our Dalarö and southern archipelago guide sets out five routes with distances.
Slow down on the way in and out. The county board's rules set 5 knots in Dalarö kanal and 7 knots for 700 m out into Vadviken from the canal mouth, and several nearby sounds have limits between 5 and 9 knots.
