Gustavsberg: boating from Farstaviken
Gustavsberg, the main town of Värmdö municipality, lies about 22 km east of central Stockholm at the head of Farstaviken, a 3 km inlet off Baggensfjärden. The porcelain factory founded here in 1825 made the town's name, and household porcelain is still produced on a small scale.
Gustavsberg itself has a sailboat for rent. The other listings are within a short drive: on Ingarö, in Saltsjöbaden, Lännersta and elsewhere in Nacka, at Bullandö and in Tyresö, and in Stockholm. Bowriders, day cruisers, RIBs and cruising sailboats cover most plans, and some owners come along as skipper.
Visiting boats berth at the guest harbour on Kattholmen, which has around 45 places, most of them between Y-booms, a minimum depth of 3 m, showers, a laundry, a sauna raft and restaurants on the quay. Check your mast height before heading in or out: the Farstabron bridge across the inlet gives 22 m of clearance, and at Farstabrohål the inlet narrows to just over 50 m.
From Baggensfjärden the way east runs through Kolström and on through Strömma kanal towards Sandhamn, roughly 24 nautical miles away. Our guide to Sandhamn and Värmdö by boat covers that route and the speed limits in the sounds.
