Hellesøy at the northern tip of Øygarden

Hellesøy, officially Hellesøyna, is an island by Hjeltefjorden at the far north of Øygarden, linked to the rest of the municipality by a bridge on county road 229. Once a fishing village, it now hosts a sea-fishing festival. A new open fishing boat with chart plotter and sounder is listed on the island, and sturdy fishing boats of the same model are moored close by. More are down the coast: a 17-foot fishing boat, and a pilothouse boat on Rong that comes with its owner, who works as a fishing guide.

From Hellesøy a local route boat serves the outer islands of Lyngøy, Hernar, Sanden, Sulo and Nordøy, natural goals for a day out.
