Sæbø on southern Radøy
Sæbø lies on southern Radøy in Alver, and was a municipality of its own from 1924 until 1964. In the mid-1900s its bay, Sæbøvågen, had a cork factory, a slipway and a general store. No boats are listed at Sæbø itself; the nearest are at Hordvik on the Bergen side, at Frekhaug and elsewhere in Alver: sailing yachts, a cabin cruiser, a pilothouse boat and small open boats.
Radøy is separated from the Lindås mainland in the east by a long, partly very narrow sound, and from Holsnøy in the west by Mangerfjorden and Radfjorden. At the island's south-east corner, Alverstraumen runs with strong tidal currents; the suspension bridge over it, which replaced the Salhus–Frekhaug–Alverstraumen ferry in 1958, gives 27 m of clearance. Our Bergen day trips include the strait.
