Hordvik, below the Nordhordland Bridge
Hordvik sits at the far northern tip of Åsane, Bergen, on the headland between the old ferry quays at Salhus and Steinestø. Its harbour belongs to Hordvikhavn Båtlag, a members' boat club founded in 1969, and a cabin cruiser from the listings lies here. The others are around Bergen city, at Indre Arna, across the fjord at Frekhaug and in Alver, and in the Askøy villages of Hetlevik and Florvåg. Expect plenty of sailing yachts and open boats among them.
Hordvik faces Salhusfjorden, where the Byfjord from Bergen meets Herdlefjorden. Three ways lead off from here: north-west up Herdlefjorden between Askøy and Holsnøy, south-east into Sørfjorden, or north-east into Osterfjorden, 27 km long around Osterøy. Osterfjorden all the way to Mostraumen is one of our day trips from Bergen. Right next to the club harbour is Hordvikhavn, a municipal bathing spot with sand and smooth rocks.
Check your height before passing under the Nordhordland Bridge. There is 32 m of clearance under the cable-stayed ship span, but only 5.5 m under the long floating section, too low for any sailing yacht.
