What is Ship O’Hoi?
Särö, south of Göteborg
Särö, in Kungsbacka municipality in Halland, is a villa community on a peninsula of the same name, joined to the mainland by two small bridges. It grew around a bathhouse opened in 1839, King Gustaf V spent several summers here, and the Säröbanan railway linked it with Göteborg from 1904 to 1965. Särö västerskog, a 55-hectare reserve of old oak and pine forest, has been protected since 1974 and is part of Natura 2000.
No boats are listed on Särö itself. The nearest is a small sailing boat at Kullavik, just to the north; the others are a RIB and a day cruiser on the southern edge of Göteborg and a walkaround boat near Kungsbacka.
Särö is a practical start for the southern part of Göteborg's archipelago, closer to Vrångö and Donsö than the city centre is. The islands, routes and speed limits are in our guide to the Göteborg archipelago.
