Hovås and its rescue-station harbour
Hovås lies by the sea in south-west Göteborg. It was part of Askim until it joined the city in 1974. Its boat harbour, Hovås båthamn, has a harbour association and one of the busiest stations of the Swedish Sea Rescue Society. Volunteers have run RS Hovås since 1983, and they now handle more than 300 missions a year, day and night, across most of the Göteborg archipelago.
No boat on this page is moored in Hovås. Most are Göteborg boats, several of them sailing yachts kept in the city and at Saltholmen. A RIB and a day cruiser are a few kilometres to the north, a small sailing boat is in Kullavik to the south, and a day cruiser is in Halland.
From this stretch of coast the southern archipelago is close. Vrångö, Donsö and Styrsö lie to the west, and they are car-free islands with ferries from Saltholmen. Our Gothenburg archipelago guide suggests Hovås as a start if you want to be nearer Vrångö and Donsö.
