Västra Frölunda: Långedrag and the river mouth
Västra Frölunda is a district in south-west Göteborg, and its shore on the Älvsborgsfjord is Långedrag. There you find a boat harbour, the Royal Gothenburg Yacht Club (Göteborgs Kungliga Segelsällskap) and the home of the Långedrag dinghies, sturdy little training boats. In the 19th century steamers brought bathers out to Långedrag's cold bathhouses; today the Långedrag tram line runs to the waterfront, which is handy on pickup day.
A sailing yacht on this page is moored in the district. The others are Göteborg boats, from Saltholmen next door to Sannegårdshamnen on the river, and a small sailing boat is in Kullavik to the south.
From Långedrag you can see Nya Älvsborg on Kyrkogårdsholmen at the mouth of the Göta älv, a fortress begun in 1653 to guard the city against the Danish fleet. To the south-west lie the car-free southern islands, and our Gothenburg archipelago guide plans routes out from Långedrag.
