Froland: inland forest, boats on the Arendal coast
Froland has no coastline. The municipality north of Arendal is mostly forest, cut through by two large rivers, the Nidelva and the Tovdalselva, with the Rv42 road running across it from Arendal towards Evje. The boats shown here are therefore all on the coast in Arendal: a family day cruiser lies about 15 minutes' walk from Pollen, the harbour basin in the town centre, another day cruiser is at Nedenes, and the rest are spread along Arendal's shore. Expect a bowrider, a small console boat and a roomy cabin cruiser as well.
The Nidelva that crosses Froland reaches the sea at Arendal, and its lower course is a 5-knot zone all year, as far up as boats can go from the sea. From 1 May to 31 August the same limit applies within 100 m of any shore, islet or skerry in Arendal. For overnight stops along this stretch of coast, see our guide to guest harbours in southern Norway.
