Eydehavn on Tromøysund
Eydehavn, an industrial village about 10 km north-east of Arendal, took its name from the industrialist Sam Eyde in 1913. A day boat with a large sun bed lies here; the others are in Arendal, some a walk from Pollen at Kuviga, and at Nedenes, Fevik and Tvedestrand. Expect bowriders, fishing boats and day cruisers, and a classic family sailing yacht.
The village faces Tromøysund, the sound that separates Tromøy from the mainland: about 12 km long, 200 to 500 m wide and the eastern approach to Arendal harbour. Arendal's regional port is at Eydehavn itself, so sizeable ships use the sound; give them room. Just offshore, Buøya is a public recreation island linked to the village by bridge, and near the eastern mouth of the sound lies Narestø, an old outport with protected houses.
Arendal's speed rules apply from here. From 1 May to 31 August the limit is 5 knots in the 100 m nearest the shore and every islet; on the inside of Flosterøya towards Kilsund it is 5 knots all year, and 30 knots elsewhere in municipal waters.
