Nes, Helgøya and the Mjøsa shore
Nes is a peninsula in Mjøsa, part of Ringsaker since 1964. Its largest village, Tingnes, has a small boat harbour, and the Nessundet bridge, opened in 1957, crosses from Nes to Helgøya, which at 18.34 km² is Norway's largest island in fresh water.
Nothing is listed on Nes itself. The nearest are in Ringsaker, including Brumunddal on the far side of the Furnesfjorden, with others in Hamar and across the lake in Gjøvik. The choice runs from a trolling boat and a snekke to RIBs, a pontoon boat and a diesel cabin cruiser.
Much of Mjøsa's shoreline is shallow and stony, which is why Bergevika, on the Hamar side of Helgøya, is one of the few harbours well suited to small boats; the fossil-rich limestone around it is a nature reserve. Anywhere on Mjøsa, a 100 m belt along land, boat harbours and piers carries a 5-knot limit. For longer trips, see our Lake Mjøsa guide.
