Roses: a base between the gulf and Cap de Creus
Every boat on this page leaves from Port Roses. There are sailing yachts of about 11 and 13 m, catamarans and a 7 m open motorboat, all bareboat. Prices are shown per week, but the motorboat can also be taken for a single day.
Roses stands at the northern end of the Gulf of Roses. It is still an important fishing port, and remains of the Greek colony of Rhode can still be seen. To the north-east rises the Cap de Creus peninsula, a natural park and the easternmost point of mainland Spain, about 25 km south of the French border. Its rocky coast is cut by small, deep-blue coves for anchoring, and Cadaqués, Port Lligat and El Port de la Selva lie around the cape. Our Costa Brava sailing guide has a week's route starting from Roses.
The one thing to plan around is the tramuntana. This north wind sweeps the cape often and has caused many shipwrecks, so pick your day to go round Cap de Creus.
