Do I need a boat licence in Croatia?
Yes. In Croatia you need a recognised boat licence, such as an ICC valid for coastal waters, to drive any rented motorboat or skipper a bareboat yacht, and bareboat charter also needs a VHF radio certificate (SRC). With a skipper or a crewed yacht you need no licence. Read our full licence guide.

Renting a boat in Veli Rat at the north-west tip of Dugi Otok
Veli Rat is a village and small harbour at the north-west end of Dugi Otok, the island about 45 km long and only 1 to 4 km wide. It lies on the bay of Ćune, which a narrow channel joins to the larger bay of Pantera.
The sailing yacht on this page, about 12 m long and taking eight guests, is based in the village port and chartered by the week.
North-west of the village stands Veli Rat lighthouse, a 36 m masonry tower whose light, 41 m above the sea, reaches 22 nautical miles. The chapel of St Nicholas, patron saint of sailors, stands in its courtyard. To the south-east lies the wide bay of Sakarun with its white sand; in summer it pays to get there before noon. Sakarun is also a stop in a week through the Zadar islands.
