Renting a boat in Kalamata: questions and answers
What does it cost to rent a boat in Kalamata?
Charter yachts cost from €2,350 per week, typically €6,300 per week (11 yachts with a price). Prices vary by date and season, and each boat shows the exact price for your dates.
Can I rent a boat with a skipper in Kalamata?
Yes. 10 of the 11 boats on this page can be rented with a skipper or captain, so nobody in your group has to drive.
How many people can come along on a rental boat in Kalamata?
The largest boat here takes up to 25 people, and a typical boat takes 10.
Do I need a boat licence in Greece?
Not for a small motorboat: in Greece an outboard of up to 30 hp is licence-free on a conventional hull, but only up to 15 hp on a RIB or V-hull. To charter a yacht bareboat the skipper needs a recognised licence, and the ICC is the safest choice; with a hired skipper nobody on board needs one. Read our full licence guide.

Kalamata: marina or town port on the Messenian Gulf
Kalamata, the chief port of Messenia, lies at the head of the Messenian Gulf, the arm of the Ionian Sea between the Messenian coast and the Mani peninsula. The boats on this page are split between two berths in town. Kalamata Marina, with 250 berths for yachts up to 25 m, is open all year and answers on VHF 69; it holds sailing yachts and catamarans, including a crewed boat. Kalamata Port has the motor boats, a large motor yacht, more catamarans and a sailing yacht.
The two shores of the gulf are nothing alike. To the east the foothills of the Taygetos drop steeply to the sea, and the few villages, Kardamyli and Stoupa among them, sit in coves along the Mani coast; Kardamyli is roughly 10 nautical miles away in a straight line. The western shore is low and fertile, running past Petalidi to Koroni, about 15 nautical miles off. The gulf ends in the south-east at Cape Tainaron, the tip of the Mani.
The eastern side has few settlements, so decide where you will spend each night before you leave.
