Renting a sailing boat in Eigersund
Eigersund, in Dalane in southern Rogaland, takes in the coast from Mong near Sokndal to Hellvik near Hå. Its town, Egersund, lies 77 km south of Stavanger around Vågen, a bay off the sound between Eigerøya and the mainland.
A 32 ft sailing yacht for up to eight is listed in the municipality, with an inflatable dinghy and a small four-stroke outboard for getting ashore. It can be rented with or without a skipper, and the exact meeting point is given once the owner approves your request.
Eigerøya is cut off from the mainland by a narrow sound 13 km long, bridged at Nysund, where it is only 40 m wide. Two lighthouses guard the approaches and are open to visitors: Vibberodden, from 1855, at the southern entrance, and Eigerøy lighthouse, from 1854, on Midbrødøya off the island's west side, the first cast-iron tower on the Norwegian coast.
