Charter bases in Olbia
Most boats on this page lie in Marina di Olbia, in the city's harbour and about ten minutes from Olbia Costa Smeralda airport. A few sail from the Gulf of Cugnana, a short drive north, where Portisco and Cala dei Sardi are also major bases. The fleet has many catamarans, from family-sized to luxury crewed models, alongside sailing yachts, a motor yacht and a gulet.
Tavolara, Costa Smeralda and La Maddalena
Right outside the gulf rises Tavolara, part of a marine protected area with anchoring zones and turquoise bays. North of Olbia the Costa Smeralda runs to Porto Cervo, and beyond it the La Maddalena archipelago, a national park with its own permit per boat. Across the Strait of Bonifacio lies Corsica. The mistral can blow hard in the strait, so plan the crossing with the forecast.
Bareboat, skipper or crew?

Olbia: charter from the ferry port city
Olbia is north-east Sardinia's gateway, and its charter fleet is concentrated at Marina di Olbia, on the south side of the bay facing the Isola Bianca ferry terminal and only a few minutes from the airport. It has 270 berths and works on VHF 9. A few boats are in the Golfo di Cugnana to the north, and a few on the Molo Brin in town. Most of the fleet is catamarans and sailing yachts, joined by a few motor yachts.
The obvious day out is south to Tavolara, the limestone island that rises straight out of the sea, together with Molara and the harbour of Porto San Paolo. North of the bay, Golfo Aranci leads towards the Costa Smeralda.
Tavolara lies inside the Tavolara–Punta Coda Cavallo marine protected area, and its rules apply to every boat: - No navigation, mooring or anchoring in zone A, along the south-east of Tavolara and around the Molarotto rock. - No anchoring on Posidonia seagrass anywhere in the park. - In zones B and C, motorboats keep to 5 knots within 300 m of the coast and 10 knots out to 600 m. - Jet skis and towed water sports are banned throughout.
