Cannigione: the closest base to La Maddalena
The whole fleet shown here sails from Cannigione, whose port lies in the innermost corner of the Gulf of Arzachena, about 5 km from the town of Arzachena. The Porto di Cannigione has about 400 berths, taking boats of up to 30 m, with floating pontoons beside an old concrete pier that has served boats to La Maddalena since the early 1900s. It is sheltered from the mistral, can be entered day and night and listens on VHF 09, 11 and 16. Depth at the quay varies from just 0.5 m to 4 m.
The fleet leans towards motor: motor yachts of many sizes, several catamarans and a gulet, mostly offered with a skipper.
Of the charter bases in north-east Sardinia, Cannigione is the nearest to the La Maddalena archipelago. The national park's seven main islands are La Maddalena, Caprera, Spargi, Santo Stefano, Santa Maria, Razzoli and Budelli, with about 180 km of coastline between them. How to fit them into seven days is shown in our week-long Sardinian island route.
Sort out the park ticket first. Any boat that sails, moors, anchors or stops within 300 m of the park's coast needs one, priced by boat length and slightly cheaper online, and boats caught without it pay a surcharge. The Spiaggia Rosa on Budelli is under full protection and off limits.
