Kyrkesund and the sound to Härön
Kyrkesund lies on north-west Tjörn, on the narrow sound, locally called Rännan, that separates Tjörn from Härön. A small sailing boat with four or five berths, a fridge and a roller genoa lies here; the owner recommends Skärhamn and Mollösund close by, or longer trips north towards Smögen or south to the Gothenburg archipelago. The other boats are an electric day boat that only goes out with a skipper, in Marstrand, and a traditional snipa at Myggenäs by the Tjörn bridges.
Kyrkesund grew with the herring periods of the 1700s and 1800s. Across the sound, much of Härön is a nature reserve of old coastal farmland with walking paths, and a passenger boat crosses from Kyrkesund.
