Fiskebäckskil, facing Lysekil across Gullmarn
Fiskebäckskil lies on Skaftö, on the south side of the mouth of Gullmarn, directly opposite Lysekil. It grew from a fishing station in the 1500s into a 19th-century skippers' village that owned Bohuslän's largest cargo fleet, and later became a summer resort. The painter Carl Wilhelmson was born here, and his villa and studio still stand.
The closest listed boat is a centre-console boat at Nordströmmarna on Skaftö, whose owner points to Gåsö and Käringön as goals. The rest are further away: a small, shallow-draught family sailing boat at Henån on Orust, a day cruiser on Bohus-Malmön, and a boat in Sotenäs that is rented with its owner as skipper.
On the edge of the village stands Kristineberg, founded in 1877 and one of the oldest marine research stations in the world. The county board has set a 5-knot limit, where signposted, in the water in front of it. Our Gullmarsfjorden routes begin with the short hop across to Lysekil.
