Myggenäs, at the Tjörn bridge

Myggenäs lies on eastern Tjörn, close to the western end of Tjörnbron, and is a public transport hub for Tjörn and Orust. The cable-stayed bridge crosses Askeröfjorden with 45.7 m of clearance in the fairway. It opened in 1981, replacing Almöbron, which collapsed in January 1980 when the bulk carrier Star Clipper struck it.

At Myggenäs you can rent a 26 ft Norwegian-built snipa with a 55 hp engine, for two adults and two children. A sailing boat with a solar panel and autopilot is listed at Kyrkesund on the north-west side of Tjörn.

From Myggenäs, the sheltered waters of Hakefjorden and Askeröfjorden are close at hand, and the inner route from Rönnäng to Stenungsund in our Tjörn and Orust routes passes right by. The Tjörn bridges have different clearances, so in a sailing boat check each one on the chart before choosing a sound.
