Minnesund, where Mjøsa becomes the Vorma
Minnesund, in Eidsvoll, is where Mjøsa, Norway's largest lake, drains into the river Vorma. A 21 ft day cruiser is kept here. Further up the lake, an open boat lies at Strandlykkja and a fully rigged trolling boat is listed under Eidsvoll.
Minnesund was once a ferry crossing, and railway and road bridges now span the sound, including the E6 bridge built for the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics. From here you can head north onto Mjøsa or follow the Vorma south: the river falls hardly at all for 22 km past Eidsvoll to Svanfossen, where a lock takes boats past the falls. The 5-knot limit within 100 m of land, harbours and piers covers both Mjøsa and the Vorma, except in the marked main fairway of the Vorma, where the markers lead closer to land. Our Lake Mjøsa guide covers routes further north.
