Propriano and the Gulf of Valinco
The yachts on this page are based in the port of Propriano, the municipal harbour at the head of the Gulf of Valinco, about halfway between Ajaccio and Bonifacio. It has two basins with 550 berths for boats of 8 to 80 m and up to 5 m draught, and the harbour office works on VHF channel 9. Catamarans of about 38 to 46 ft outnumber the monohulls in this fleet.
The gulf opens between the Capu di Muru peninsula to the north, which divides it from the Gulf of Ajaccio, and the bay of Campomoro to the south. Porto Pollo and Portigliolo lie along its shores, the Taravo and Rizzanese rivers run into it, and Genoese towers stand on its headlands from Capu di Muru to Campomoro. Beyond Campomoro the coast leads south-east towards the Strait of Bonifacio, the area covered in our South Corsica and Bonifacio Strait guide.
The harbour is sheltered from the prevailing northerly, westerly and easterly winds. Visitor berths are booked through the Corsican ports platform resaportcorse.com, and in an emergency at sea call 196 by phone or channel 16 on VHF; Propriano has its own sea rescue station.
