Renting a boat on Bømlo
Bømlo is an island municipality in Sunnhordland. Its largest island, also called Bømlo, covers 171 km², and bridges tie it to Moster, Goddo, Hiskjo and other islands. The boats listed are mostly sturdy fishing boats and small open boats: some near Svortland, the municipal centre, a boat at Finnås that has been used for line fishing and bluefin tuna, and a workboat elsewhere on the island. A small open boat is also further east at Vikebygd, on the Ålfjorden in Vindafjord.
Two canals from the mid-1800s, dug to help the spring herring fishery, cut through the islands and are still used by small boats. The Kulleseid canal at Finnås, finished in 1856 and widened between 1927 and 1935, runs 1.7 km in three sections between the east and west sides of Bømlo, and has a guest harbour and fuel. Other goals within reach are the island community of Espevær, the old trading post at Brandasund, and Mosterhamn with Moster's old church.
