Svortland: fishing boats in Bømlo's main village

Svortland, the administrative centre of Bømlo, lies in the north-central part of the island of Bømlo, built around the lake Storavatnet about 6 km west of Rubbestadneset. Until 1997 the village was known as Bremnes, after its church. Open fishing boats are listed near the village, one with an echo sounder, chart plotter, fishing gear and a pot hauler. A pilothouse boat, whose owner can come along as skipper, is at Finnås, and a workboat is on the east side of the island.

Bømlo sits at the northern entrance to the Hardangerfjord, with the Selbjørnsfjorden to the north and hundreds of small islands around it.

Several of the narrow passages between those islands have speed limits for leisure boats: - 5 knots through the Kulleseid canal, the Røyksund canal, inner Langevåg and the sounds at Espevær. - 8 knots in Brandasundet, from the bridge to the light on Selsøy.
