Renting a boat on Tysnesøya: a small open boat at Uggdal
Tysnesøya is the largest island in Tysnes, linked to the mainland by the bridge over Lukksundet and by car ferries from Våge to Halhjem and from Hodnanes to Jektevik on Stord and to the island of Huglo.
The boat listed here is kept near Uggdal, about 5 km south of Våge as the crow flies. It is a 15 ft open boat with a centre console and fish finder, powered by an outboard of 9.9 or 20 hp. The island of Fortøy and the sound of Fortøysundet lie about 3 km away.
The island's name has changed many times. Old maps call it Jarlo, Iarle-Øe or Iarløe, and the modern name Tysnesøy replaced these only towards the end of the 1700s. At the old trading place of Årbakka, grave mounds and standing stones remain from much earlier times.
