Bjørnafjorden: the fjord south of Os
Bjørnafjorden is both a fjord and, since Os and Fusa merged in 2020, the municipality along its northern and eastern shores. A hardtop day boat is listed in the municipality itself and a cabin cruiser in Os; the other boats on this page are closer to Bergen, at Lysekloster, Nordvik, Fana, Hjellestad and Søreidgrend, and in the city.
The fjord is part of the main shipping lane along the Norwegian coast and is up to about 600 m deep. To the north it branches into Fusafjorden, which splits again into Samnangerfjorden, Ådlandsfjorden and Eikelandsfjorden. South of Osøyro lie the islands of Søre Øyane, where a small marina with fuel on Bruarøy is a popular summer stop for boaters. Car ferries cross from Halhjem to Sandvikvåg and to Våge, and from Hatvik over Fusafjorden to Venjaneset, while larger ships use the main fairway, so keep a good lookout when you cross.
