Finnås and the Kulleseid canal
Finnås was the name of the parish farm in central Bømlo and of the municipality that, from 1838 to 1916, covered what is now Bømlo. Today it means either the small settlement by the Kulleseid canal or central Bømlo from Sakseid to Lykling.
A pilothouse boat is listed at Finnås. Its owner has used it for line fishing, shellfish pots and bluefin tuna, and can come along as skipper. Other fishing boats wait near Svortland, the municipal centre by Storavatnet, one with a pot hauler and fishing gear, and a workboat is on Bømlo's east side.
Dug in the 1800s as a short cut for boats across Bømlo, the canal splits the island into a bare, boggy north and a greener south. Beside it are a grocery, a fuel station and a popular guest harbour.
