Renting a boat in Vikebygd on Ålfjorden
Vikebygd lies on the east shore of Ålfjorden, around the cove of Vikevik, about 40 km from Haugesund. The boats on this page are kept around Vikevik and Dommasnes: a small open fishing boat, a 21-foot boat, and a larger boat that its owner only rents out for guided tours.
Ålfjorden is a 27 km side fjord of Bjoafjorden and the Hardangerfjord, running south along the border between Rogaland and Vestland. Årvik lies in a bay further out, and small hamlets such as Framnes, Oa and Erve sit on the opposite shore. At Erve, Ervebukta branches 3 km west and narrows to only 25 m, where county road 1 crosses on a 55 m bridge. The fjord then turns west and splits into several coves before ending at Sundførfjorden in Tysvær.
The village is best known for building the concrete wall around the Ekofisk oil tank in 1988–89.
