Kolnes on the Førresfjorden
Kolnes is a residential area of about 2,000 people in Karmøy municipality, on the west shore of the Førresfjorden, south of Førre and just east of Haugesund. An open boat for up to ten people is kept in the small-boat harbour at Kolnes; it has a fold-down bow door that makes it easy to step ashore on a beach or go for a swim. The other boats are a cabin cruiser with beds for a family on Karmøy, and a wooden sjark in Haugesund whose owner rents it only to people with boating experience.
The Førresfjorden is a narrow arm of the sea with Førre at its inner end. To the south it opens into the Boknafjord through Fosnasundet, east of the island of Fosen, so the open, more exposed water of the Boknafjord is not far from the harbour.
