What is Ship O’Hoi?
Rygge: Larkollen and the Kurefjord
Rygge was a municipality of its own until 2020, when it merged with Moss, and its stretch of the Østfold side of the Oslofjord centres on Larkollen. Most boats on this page are not in Rygge. They are in Moss, across the fjord in Horten, Tønsberg and Tolvsrød, and further south around Fredrikstad, Kråkerøy and Gressvik. The nearest is a small RIB in Larkollen.
Larkollen is the local boating village. Its Rørvik boat harbour is home to a sailing club, founded in 2010, that teaches children and adults, and a deep-water quay stands at the entrance to Larkollsund. Offshore, Kollen, Eldøya and the Sletter islands together form the Eldøya–Sletter landscape protection area.
Treat the Kurefjord with care. This shallow bay between Larkollen and Oven is a Ramsar-listed nature reserve for migrating waders. Motor traffic is banned inside it, except on the shortest route to and from existing jetties at up to 5 knots, and Rosnesbukta and Nordre Ovenbukt are closed from 1 April to 15 July and from 15 August to 30 September.
