Larkollen, an old loading place on the Østfold shore
Larkollen is a coastal village in the south-west of Moss municipality, about 14.5 km from Rygge, and its population more than doubles in summer. It started as a small loading place, and Larkollsund was valued early as a harbour, sheltered and deep close to land. The coastal fort Fredriksodde was built by the sound in 1711; it never saw action, and its ruins are still visible below a summer villa.
A RIB is moored in the village, at Knutvika boat harbour. The other boats are around Moss, including a sailing yacht at Sløy, at Manstad further south, across the fjord in Horten and Åsgårdstrand, and in Tønsberg, Tolvsrød, Fredrikstad, Kråkerøy and Gressvik.
