What is Ship O’Hoi?

Åsgårdstrand, Munch's summer town

On the Horten–Tønsberg border, Åsgårdstrand shipped timber in the 1800s and only became a town in 2010. Edvard Munch spent most summers here from 1885 to 1905, and The Girls on the Bridge shows a scene from the town. The town has a small-boat harbour of about 310 berths in three basins, where a permanent berth requires membership of Åsgårdstrand Båtforening or Åsgårdstrand Seilforening. A day cruiser listed under Horten is actually kept in Åsgårdstrand. The rest are in Horten, Tolvsrød and Tønsberg, in Holmestrand, and across the fjord in Moss and Larkollen.

For a stop in town, Åsgårdstrand gjestehavn has a bathing park with a ladder, a small beach and a lawn right beside the quay, and a marina selling diesel and petrol. Munch's house is a short walk along the water, open daily in summer. The coastal path heads north to the Borrehaugene Viking-age burial mounds in Borre National Park.

Horten's rules hold boats to 5 knots near the shore, inside 100 m.
