Manstad on the Onsøy coast

Manstad is a stretch of Onsøy, the peninsula on Fredrikstad's west side facing the open Oslofjord, and it includes the small settlements of Lervik and Kjærre. Manstad itself has a small open boat listed; the rest are around Fredrikstad, on Kråkerøy, in Gressvik and Rolvsøy, across the fjord in Horten, Tolvsrød and Tønsberg, and in Larkollen to the north.

This is a coast of bays and sounds. Lervik has a bathing beach of bare rock with a gently shelving sand and clay bottom, and Skjæløy guest harbour, in the Manstad postal area, has about 40 guest berths, fuel and power. Onsøyknipen, 107 m, looks out over Hankø, a 4 km² island with no road link and a big regatta venue in June and July. Engelsviken's guest harbour lies further north, behind a breakwater between Hankø and Larkollen.

Fredrikstad has many slow zones: 5 knots in Skjeløysundet, Langebog, Hankøsundet and Elingårdskilen, and 3 knots inside the breakwater at Engelsviken. Several islets are seabird reserves, closed from 15 April, most of them until 1 August.
