Naples: four harbours along the city waterfront
Charter boats listed for Naples leave from four places along the city's waterfront. Most are at Darsena Acton in the central port, on Via Acton. Others lie at Porto di Mergellina and Molo Luise in Mergellina, below the Posillipo hill, and some large catamarans are based at Marina Porticciolo di Nisida, on the volcanic islet at the western end of the city. The fleet leans towards catamarans and big motor yachts, many of them crewed, alongside sailing yachts and a gulet.
Nisida is almost circular, about half a kilometre across, and a flooded crater forms the bay of Porto Paone on its south-west side. Between Nisida and Mergellina runs the Posillipo coast, where the Gaiola underwater park protects 41.6 ha of sea from Marechiaro to Trentaremi Bay; look at its zoning map before you stop there. Expect ferry traffic from the start. Hydrofoils for Capri, Ischia and Procida dock at Molo Beverello in the central port, and Mergellina is a hydrofoil harbour as well as a fishing port.
