Setting out from Salerno along the Amalfi Coast
The yachts listed for Salerno are almost all at Marina d'Arechi, a large marina with around 1,000 berths for boats from 10 to 100 m. A few boats use Salerno's town port. Arrival procedure at Arechi is strict: call the control tower on VHF 74 before entering, keep to 3 knots inside, and do not anchor within the harbour. The fleet is mainly sailing yachts and catamarans by the week, with some motor yachts.
West of the marina the Amalfi Coast begins almost at once, with Vietri and Cetara, then Amalfi and Positano further along, all with steep cliffs dropping into the sea. Beyond the tip of the peninsula lies Capri.
At the end of the peninsula is the Punta Campanella marine protected area, which sets firm limits: - In zone A, around the Vetara rock, the shoal west of Li Galli and the Vervece rock, boats may not enter or stop at all. - The Baia di Ieranto is in zone B, where motorboats need park authorisation and free anchoring is banned.
Closer to shore, the Salerno coastguard reserves the water within 200 m of beaches and 100 m of high cliffs for swimmers in summer. Boats may only cross that strip through marked corridors, at minimum speed. Our Amalfi Coast and Capri itinerary plans a week that starts here.
