Fishing boats on the Ångermanälven at Åsele

Åsele is the municipal centre in southern Lapland, Västerbotten, and the Ångermanälven runs right through it. Boating here means river and lake water, not the sea. The boats are light fishing boats kept on the river in town, such as a plastic boat with a new 3.5 hp four-stroke and oars, or one with an 8 hp four-stroke, oars and rod holders. A registered trailer can be added, so you can take a boat to the smaller lakes in the area.

Fishing needs a permit. Upstream, the roughly 65 km stretch from the Volgsjöfors dam down to Åsele is managed as Övre Ångermanälven by the Vilhelmina and Åsele municipalities. Trout, grayling, perch, pike and whitefish are caught here. Grayling must be at least 30 cm and trout 45 cm, with three of each per permit and day. Anyone up to 16 fishes free.
