Boating on Reisafjorden from Sørreisa
Sørreisa's village lies at the head of Reisafjorden, a 6 km arm reaching east off Solbergfjorden, the sound that divides Senja from the mainland in Midt-Troms. You collect the boats on the fjord's north shore, at Furøy near Djupvåg: for example a console boat for up to six with a 40 hp outboard and an echo sounder, or a diesel day cruiser with a small gas grill and fishing rods for adults and children. The day cruiser's owner asks for a boating licence and experience.
Out of the fjord mouth, Finnfjorden leads north to Finnsnes and Gisundet, while Solbergfjorden runs 27 km south-west along the Senja shore. The fjord took its name from the river Reisa. Grunnreisa, on the north-east side of the entrance, is named after the shallow part of the fjord there, so keep an eye on the echo sounder.
