Billingstad: an inland start to the fjord
Billingstad is a residential area of Asker on the Bærum border, about 16 km from central Oslo, set back from the shore between Hvalstad, Nesbru, Holmen and Slependen. It has no harbour of its own, so all the boats shown are picked up a short drive away, at Slependen, Sandvika or Nesøya, or further off in Asker, Høvik and Oslo. Most are private owners' boats for a day on the fjord, from small open boats to cabin cruisers, plus a few sailboats.
One easy destination from Sandvika is Borøya, an island you can only reach by your own boat or the small Rigmor ferry. It has a sandy beach and places to moor, and most of it is a nature reserve.
Leave the fishing gear at home: all fishing is banned all year in the Oslofjord north of the Horten–Moss line, and cod fishing in the entire fjord. The boating season here runs roughly from May to September.
