Renting a boat in Valldal: Norddalsfjorden from Vika
Valldal is the valley that runs about 30 km up from the fjord to the top of Trollstigen. Its centre, Sylte, lies where the river Valldøla reaches Norddalsfjorden, an arm of Storfjorden that runs 16 km east to Oksneset, where Tafjorden takes over.
The boat here is a small aluminium boat with a 15 hp engine and electric start, for up to four. It lies at Viken guest harbour at Vika, just east of the centre on the road towards Tafjord. Life jackets are included, fishing gear on request, and extra fuel is 98-octane petrol. The owner rents from May until autumn, and always weather permitting.
Just west of Sylte, the car ferry between Linge and Eidsdal crosses the fjord, the last of the ferries that once ran along it, so watch for it when you pass Linge.
