Renting a boat in Nærøysund: boats from nearby Jøa

Nærøysund was formed in 2020 from Vikna and Nærøy and reaches from the Vikna islands by the open Folda to both sides of Indre Foldafjord. Its coastline runs to 3,651 km, most of it on islands, and most inhabited islands have bridges. The main coastal fairway passes through the Nærøysundet strait, with Rørvik and Marøya on one side and Ottersøy on the other, and the Nærøysund bridge between Marøya and Rørvik.

Boats for this page are based just outside the municipality. A bowrider for six is kept at Faksdal on Jøa, the island to the south in neighbouring Namsos, and goes out with a full tank.

By boat, the draws of the area include the Norveg coastal culture centre, the protected fishing villages of Sør-Gjæslingan and Nordøyan, and the old trading posts of Abelvær and Buøya. Rørvik is a busy fishing port and a Hurtigruten stop, so keep clear of working boats and ships in the sound.
