What is Ship O’Hoi?
Ranheim, on the fjord east of Trondheim
Ranheim is a district in the east of Trondheim that belonged to Strinda municipality until 1964. Its name probably comes from an old word for a snout or point, after a high headland here. The district grew around the paper mill built in 1891 beside the Vikelva river, whose running water was one reason for putting it here; the mill still turns recycled paper into paper and board.
A sailing boat is moored along the Ranheim shore with everything aboard except food, which its owner asks you to bring. A 10.5 ft inflatable for three adults is listed nearer the city centre, and its owner suggests Munkholmen as a goal.
From Ranheim the Trondheimsfjord opens straight ahead, with the city to the west. Our Trondheimsfjorden routes and anchorages cover trips further up and down the fjord.
