Renting a boat near Levanger: Ytterøy and the Trondheimsfjord

Levanger town sits on a headland between the mouth of the Levangerelva and the small sound into Eidsbotn, on the east side of the Trondheimsfjord. Its old trading-town centre has been a protected cultural environment since 2018.

Out in the fjord lies Ytterøy, about 28 km² and the largest island in the Trondheimsfjord, linked to Levanger by car ferry. The island has no foxes or other predatory mammals, which is why it has so many roe deer. Several bird sanctuaries along this shore, including Eidsbotn by the town, belong to the Trondheimsfjord wetland Ramsar site.

No boats are listed in Levanger itself. The nearest is in neighbouring Verdal to the north-east: a 27 ft cabin cruiser for up to ten, with sleeping places for four adults and two more on the sunbed, a toilet with shower, a galley and a chartplotter. Its owner requires a boat licence and a deposit. Our Trondheimsfjord guide lists Levanger's guest harbour among its stops.
