Jøa, between Foldafjorden and the Namsos mainland
Jøa is a 55 km² island in Namsos municipality. Foldafjorden runs along its north side, Gyltefjorden and Seierstadfjorden separate it from the mainland to the east, and the Raudsunda sound lies between Jøa and Otterøya to the south. Cars arrive on the Seierstad–Ølhammeren ferry. In the middle of the island is Dun, with Øver-Dun, the childhood home of the author Olav Duun, and the highest point is Moldvikfjellet at 297 m.
On the island itself, a 19 ft bowrider for six is let with a full tank. A sailing yacht is on the mainland at Vemundvik by Namsos, let by the week to experienced crews. Its owner names Jøa as one of the stops heading north, together with Flatanger, Nordøyan, Sør-Gjæslingan and Leka.
Keep clear of the ferry when you pass the landing at Seierstad.
