Lillesand and the eastern end of Blindleia

Lillesand grew from an old loading place once called simply Sand, and it marks the eastern end of Blindleia. Boats on this page are spread around the municipality: several in or near the town, among them a boat that lies at the guest pier in the centre according to its listing, a RIB and a small open boat at Kjøbmannsvig, a boat at Høvåg, and another up the coast in Grimstad. Most are open boats, skerry jeeps and bowriders, with a sport cruiser.

Blindleia is the inner lead running for about 20 km west of Lillesand, sheltered from the Skagerrak by islands, islets and skerries. Along it you pass Skauerøya, largely a public recreation area, Justøya with the old outport of Brekkestø, Ågerøya with its farmland and no bridge, and the outports of Gamle Hellesund and Ulvøysund at the western end. A trading ship carrying millstones, wrecked in Ulvøysund in the first half of the 11th century, shows how long this route has been used.

From 15 June to 15 August the limit is 5 knots within 50 m of land, islands and skerries in the secondary fairway. Our Kristiansand guide follows Blindleia on to Kristiansand.
